Seasonal survey restrictions
The presence or absence of protected species can often only be confirmed once a detailed survey for
that particular species has been undertaken. Survey methods and seasonal survey requirements vary
for each species, and lack of planning for such surveys can potentially delay a planning application,
as many Planning Authorities now request a full set of survey results on submission of the planning
application. It is therefore advisable to consider ecology at the earliest stage possible, by
undertaking an initial Extended Phase I survey or walkover to highlight any habitats that may
support protected species.
